THE ESTATE
Palheiro Estate enjoys a beautiful hillside location
with stunning views of the ocean and the city of
Funchal. Since it was acquired by the Blandy family
in 1885, successive generations have managed the
transition from traditional farming to leisure based
activities. This strong tradition of hospitality and
quality continues in all areas today, from golf and
the hotel to the gardens and flower business; from
real estate to property management and even the
sports motor cruiser. The names of Blandy and
Palheiro are synonymous with quality on Madeira
Island and beyond.
GOLF
Palheiro Golf is situated some 10 km east of Funchal
with magnificent views overlooking the town and bay.

The 18-hole par 72 course was designed by Cabell
Robinson in 1993 and is skillfully set in the estate
and parkland of the Quinta do Palheiro. Remarkable
for its Bermuda fairways, fast greens and the
presence of many spectacular mature trees, the course
is a worthy challenge for all handicap levels.
HOTEL
Of the island's hotels Casa Velha is the only one
placed "on" a golf course. The Casa Velha is able to
offer various favourable packages. Madeira is
renowned for it's beautiful levada walks and
breathtaking scenery. Casa Velha is also ideally
situated to explore the island, certainly as near to
nature as one can get.

Guests at the Casa Velha may enjoy a wide variety of
menus presented by our award winning French chef who
mixes traditional Portuguese dishes with culinary
expertise, to create an à la Carte menu which has
already been recognized in Madeira as one of the
finest on the island.
GARDENS
The gardens at "Quinta do Palheiro" are famous not
only for the variety of plants that grow there but
for the beauty of their setting in the hills to the
east of Funchal, the capital of Madeira. Madeira has
long been called the " Garden Isle " and it seems
that almost anything will grow in its fertile soil.
In Funchal many tropical plants have found a home and
the visitor can see Hibiscus and Bougainvillaea in
flower almost all the year round along with
Jacaranda, Spathodeas, Erythrinas and Bauhinias in
their seasons. The Palheiro gardens are situated at
about 500 metres above sea level. The original owner,
the Conde de Carvalhal, planted many trees on the
estate and laid the foundation to the Camellia
collection; some of his early plantings can still be
seen today. Since 1885 when the Quinta passed into
the hands of the Blandy family, successive
generations have given much work and devotion to the
gardens.
