Madeira Wine Rally
From 31 July to 2 August

The 2007 Madeira Wine Rally, the largest automobile event in the Region will be held from 31 July to 2 August. Famous names from the world of motor racing and their cars will come to this major event which will bring together around 90 competitors.

Machico Gastronomy Week
From 1 to 10 August

With the objective of promoting the Region’s gastronomy, and this area in particular, this feast is held in Machico.

Monte Festival
From 14 to 15 August

This is considered the main religious folk festival in the region and it is also commemorated wherever in the world Madeiran immigrants are to be found.

Madeira Wine Festival
From 5 to 7 September

Recalling the social and economic importance of Madeira wine, the Madeira Wine Festival is held in September during the grape harvest, going back to the population’s old customs since the island was first settled.

Columbus Festival
From 11 to 13 September
Colombo2-s
This event is dedicated to Christopher Columbus and is held in Vila Baleira, Porto Santo in September. The festival involves music, drama, exhibitions and parades recalling the age of the Portuguese discoveries.

FIFF - Funchal International Film Festival

The 4th edition of the International Film Festival of Funchal, FIFF-Madeira, will be held at the Baltazar Dias Municipal Theatre, from 7 to 15 November. The main aim of the FIFF is to publicise quality cinematography as yet unknown to the people of Madeira.

New Year celebrations

The New Year celebrations have been Madeira’s main tourist attraction for years now. They begin in November and last till January, with a wide variety of cultural, folk and artistic events.

Madeira Islands Walking Festival
From 13 to 17 January, 2009

The Madeira Official Tourism Board, with the collaboration of the British journalist and photographer, Terry Marsh, shall be holding a Walking Festival in January, on the islands of Madeira and Porto Santo. The 2nd edition of this festival shall take place between 13 and 17 January 2009.

Carnival
From 21 to 24 February, 2009

The Carnival, or Mardi Gras, celebrations in Madeira take the form of a great parade of floats the Saturday before Shrove Tuesday and remain an essentially folk festival.
