In the western part of Madeira Island on the south coast, a brand new small country hotel residence is welcoming guests. Built on the site of an old sugar cane factory, this latest addition to the rural retreats of Madeira is guaranteed to be a success. Comprising of just 10 bedrooms (including 2 one bedroom suites and 1 bedroom for disabled persons), the Estalagem ( small hotel ) is set amongst 20.000 m2 of fruit orchards and has spectacular sea views.

The bedrooms of Estalagem Engenho Velho have been a welcome surprise for many new guests due to their cosy ambience. The owners have taken great care to ensure that you feel comfortable in surroundings that could easily match those of your own home. There are 7 bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms and 2 one bedroom suites with HYDRO massage showers / baths. In line with their caring nature, there is an additional bedroom that has been especially adapted for disabled persons.
All rooms are equipped with twin beds, direct dial telephone, cable TV and air-conditioning. They all face south and have extensive sea views which transform at dusk into incredible sunsets. An unusual feature for many visitors will be the presence of a comfortable hammock on each of the apartment terraces, a real treat for those lazy holiday afternoons!

local marinas and levada walking opportunities (even
country walks within the grounds are possible), Leo
and his wife are destined to enjoy much success with
this exciting new project.
The owners of this fine establishment have a passion
for home grown produce, and try whenever possible to
use only products from their extensive gardens. Fresh
vegetables, herbs and fruit are picked daily just a
few metres from the restaurant kitchen. specializing
in local cuisine using fresh products from the
estalagem grounds.
Breakfast can be served in your room if you desire,
or you can enjoy superb hospitality in the restaurant
overlooking the expansive blue ocean that lies below.

Evening meals are a delight; the backdrop of romantic
sunsets completing your night of fine food and
excellent wines.
